Matagorda: Matagorda Community Monthly Paddle- Little Boggy
Community monthly paddle meetup to explore waterways in Matagorda, Texas. Bring your own kayak or SUP, life jacket, fishing poles & license (if you want to fish), 360 night light if you plan to stay out after dark (Sunset at 8:06pm), plenty of water, sunscreen & bugspray and your friends & family! If you're bringing your own boat no need to sign up as this is an open & free event, just be ready to launch at 6:30pm.
If you don't have your own kayak you can rent one (comes with lifejacket, paddle, & 360 light) from MAC for $10 off the regular half-day rental rate. Be sure to reserve in advance as we will only be bringing enough kayaks for those with advance registration. Use the ticket link in the invite to reserve a kayak at the discounted rate.
For our May Community Paddle we will be paddling Little Boggy (Coordinates:28.71081, -95.9146). Little Boggy Bayou connects McNab and Gottschalk lakes to the Intracoastal Waterway. This is a great place to fish for Reds and Flounder and view wildlife. Be aware that this is prime Alligator habitat and we have heard reports of some 13ft+ monsters up there. This is a good place to stay in your kayak and not get out to wade. We also recommend you carry a GPS and lay a track. It can be easy to get lost in the maze of marsh that is Little Boggy. If you are going here for the first time, it is a good idea to hire a guide to show you around. All the land in Little Boggy is private property so please protect paddler access and don’t trespass onto dry land here.
From Matagorda, go east at the Cemetery on Old Gulf Rd. (also known as Cemetery Road). Drive for approximately 2.75 miles and park just before the small bridge and launch on the north side of the road.
